The New Long-Term Organization: Characteristics, Leadership, and Strategies

Dr. Dennis R. Briscoe joins ITC Director and program moderator Henry N. Mooney in San Diego, California.

A disruptive environment of surprises and challenges seems to be the new norm within which individuals, organizations, communities and nations must operate and survive. Our networked society now and in the future will only accentuate changes and interactions on a global scale. Global knowledge will increasingly become the key to productivity and future success of all organizations, which must now strive to become long-term more than ever, not with 5-year horizons, but with 20 and more years. We know that organizations that have relied on one exceptional leader (Apple with Steve Jobs) have difficulty surviving after the leaders leave. What are the characteristics of long term organizations, particularly looking into the future of intense connectivity, travel, technology progress and increased human needs? Is exceptional planning and futurism enough or even realistic? This exciting videoconference will review the concepts of long-term leadership, sustainability and global competencies (i.e., competencies with global knowledge) as the new pillars for organizations which aspire to become successful and maintain success in the long term over various generations and centuries. The exceptional invited speaker will also present the concept of wisdom, as knowledge that transcends time and is key for effective decision-making in eras of fast change and disruption such as the one we live today.
